Online Advertising / Posts

Organic Posts

For organic posts (non-paid) across our MTU platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn) we have a facility which allows staff members to contribute to MTU’s official social media channels directly.  It’s called ‘Social Pilot’ and this platform allows staff to post directly while following an approval process.   ‘Social Pilot’ is a very intuitive software and the system is set up so that all posts need approval from an admin before going live, so you can’t make any errors!

You can set your posts up exactly as you want them to go out . A Marketing Unit staff member will then give them the once-over to make sure all is right and then approve them to go live. You can place your copy (ideally 280-500 characters), picture(s) or video, weblink for applications, and any suitable tags and schedule for review.
It’s very easy to sign up,  log in online and use this social media tool. If you or a member of your department would like to register to use the ‘Social Pilot’ platform, please email socialmedia@mtu.ie and we will add you as a user. Let us know if you would like an email invite link to join.

  • Once joined go to: https://socialmedia.mtu.ie/  Key in your email and password and you should be good to go.
  • Click ‘create post’ top right. Any probs, let us know.

Paid Social Media / Online Advertising

If considering a paid targeted advert, and you have a budget, this is a list of things that we will need for setting up a paid advert on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn or X (Twitter):

  •  Cost code
  • Your budget (ex vat)
  • The dates for the advert to run (from and to)
  • The audience you wish to target, demographic, locations being targeted etc

A guide to the ad:

  • Heading (doesn’t necessarily have to be the name of the course – something to draw attention)
  • Brief description (2-3 lines - or 280 characters max)
  • Website link URL for advert clicks (check website page to ensure content is accurate)
  • Picture(s) / poster or video which will be featured
  • How is the course delivered?
  • Closing date for applications
  • Please note: the Irish Language requirements for all MTU advertising on irish-language
